More life drawing

Life Drawing

First life drawing session for second year!
It was difficult to get back into life drawing but I don't think the first session went too badly.

Art Deco

One of the first projects we were set was to copy a piece of art from a specific art movement that we were given. I was given Art Deco and found the poster for the film Metropolis which was created during the time of the art deco movement (1920s-1940s).
The simplicity of this style and use of only two high contrasting colours could work well for an emotional or dramatic animation such as Lotte Reiniger's silhouette animations.

The Rush Job final animatics

The Rush Job

The first project we were thrown into for second year was called "The Rush Job" which was basically to create an idea for an advertisement for a company made up by our tutors.

The group I was put with came up with an idea almost immediately - otters! We ran through a range of different ideas, such as satire, comedy but we all liked the idea of an emotional, tear jerking advert similar to that of John Lewis such as "The Long Wait" (2011) or "The Bear and the Hare" (2013).

We chose Otters as our animal so that the advert would appeal to all people around the world and wasn't tied to a specific race or culture. Also because they're adorable and hold hands when they fall asleep so they don't float away from each other. This was the main point to our advert as a girl would notice the lonely otter and buy him an otter plushy so that he would no longer be lonely. Of course, this toy would be bought from the store that we were advertising.

We were teamed up with TV students and came up with a great script and animatic, the designs were created by Lizzie and Prawta and we all worked on the storyboard, animatic, concept art, pose sheets, backgrounds and colour stills from the animatic.
